Q. 1. What is the Pratham AI Hackathon?
 
The Pratham AI Hackathon is a dynamic 4-week summer event for high school students in the Seattle Metropolitan and Bay Area. It combines hands-on learning, expert mentorship, and team collaboration to empower students to use AI to create solutions focused on improving learning and employability in low-resource environments.

Q. 2. Why participate in the Pratham AI Hackathon? 
 
Pratham AI hackathon is a beginner friendly competition that will give you a platform to build innovative AI solutions under the mentorship of stellar panel of industry leaders. Mentors will help with the basics of programming, marketing, and design, but also provide advice on more specific questions that you might have during the hackathon. What's more, participants also have the chance to win awards in the form of cash prizes ($1000, $500, $100) across categories such as ideation, innovation, and social impact.
 
Q. 3. Who is eligible to participate in the hackathon? 

All high school students based in the Seattle Metropolitan area or the San Francisco Bay Area are encouraged to participate in the Pratham AI Hackathon. No prior experience is needed!
 
Q. 4. How can students with no AI or coding background participate?  Are there any prerequisite skills or experience to participate?
 
No prior experience is needed! Anyone with an interest in computer science, AI or just solving real world problems is welcome to participate. The hackathon provides learning resources and access to mentors who can assist in understanding AI concepts and the technical aspects necessary for project development. This is a great opportunity for hands on learning by doing, in a supportive and educational environment. 


To provide further assistance when it comes to AI, we have decided to partner with aiXplain, a platform with little to no code that helps transform ideas into tangible solutions without the complexities of building and deploying AI solutions. Using aiXplain is entirely optional for hackers, but if you choose to build your solutions with aiXplain, you'll be provided with credits and support to help you build your AI solutions.

Q. 5. I'm a little confused about aiXplain, could you provide a little more information about it/What is aiXplain?

AiXplain is a no-code/low-code AI platform that helps transform ideas into tangible solutions without the complexities of building and deploying AI solutions. It was developed to increase the efficiency of creating and producing ai projects and has features such as team collaboration and data management.

Why should you use aiXplain?

No coding experience needed: aiXplain enables hackers to develop, manage, benchmark, and deploy AI assets effortlessly, without any machine learning or coding experience.

Comprehensive resources and support: If you choose to build your solutions with aiXplain, you'll be provided with credits and support to help you build your AI solutions.

Again, note that aiXplain is a completely optional tool for hackers.


Q. 6. How do I register for the event? 

Registration is simple and free of charge. Register Now! 

Q. 7. What is the registration deadline?
 
The last date to register is June 16, 2024. Those signing up after June 11th are encouraged to come with a team or they may have limited choices for team assignment.
 
Q. 8. Is there a registration fee for the hackathon? 

No, there is no registration fee for the hackathon.
 
Q. 9. What are the dates and location of the hackathon? 

The Pratham AI Hackathon will be a fully online event and will go on for 4 weeks- the event kick off will be on June 22 and the last day of the hackathon will be on July 27. Click here for more details. Submissions can be made any time within the submission window as far as your team and mentor are satisfied with your deliverables. 

Q. 10. Will the event be in-person, online, or hybrid?
 
The hackathon will be a fully online event.

Q. 11. What topics or problems will the hackathon focus on?

Q. 12. How much time commitment will be needed? 
 
The hackathon is NOT a full-time commitment. The estimated time commitment is only a few hours per week during the 4-week Hackathon - Students will meet with mentors for approximately 1 hour per week. Beyond that, it is entirely up to the teams to determine exactly how much time they will need and their ideal schedule. Q. 13. How are teams formed and can I choose my team? 

We highly encourage all participants to apply with their chosen teams. But you can apply as an individual and we will facilitate team formation. Participants who are applying as individuals will be placed on teams with other students depending on their skills. For example, someone with strong coding capability would ideally be paired with someone with a strong skill set in project management, another person with UX experience, etc. The goal is to create teams with diverse skill sets.   

Q. 14. How big can each team be? Can I compete individually? 

No, the hackathon is a team-based competition. Each team will have 4-6 students. Collaborating will help you develop a better project! 
 
Q. 15. What resources or support will be provided to participants?
 
We have an incredible panel of mentors who are industry stalwarts from several leading tech companies. Each team will be paired with a mentor who will help with the basics of programming, marketing, and design, and also provide advice on more specific questions that you might have during the hackathon. Teams will also be suggested to a repository of tech tools to leverage for their projects. 
 
Q. 16. Who are the mentors and judges for the hackathon?

Q. 17. What criteria will be used to judge the projects?
 
Projects will be judged based on ideation, innovation, and real-world impact. For more details, please check out the rubric here

Q. 18. How is the event structured over its duration? 
 
After the kickoff, there's a development period, followed by pitch practice and a final presentation/demo day.
 
Q. 19. How can I prepare for the hackathon? What should I bring? 
 
Bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm! Read up on coding if you are a beginner and familiarize yourself with AI technologies and the problem themes.

Q. 21. Are there awards and prizes? 

Yes! Winners of the AI Hackathon not only have their projects developed by Pratham to further its mission on the ground and help improve the state of education in India but are also eligible for multiple awards in the form of cash prizes.  Q. 22. Who owns the IP generated at the Pratham AI Hackathon?
 
The IP generated will belong to the hackers of the Pratham AI Hackathon.
